-=[ #6 - Elwe and Melian ]=- You climb up on the foot of the pedestal and lean over the basin. The water is still. In it, the reflections of stars are motionless. Suddenly the surface grows black. You see a lady, one of the fairest you've ever seen. She is singing, softly and slowly. All around her everything stops to listen. Birds grow silent, water stops flowing, people drop what they were doing. Nightingales fly around as she walks among the large trees, letting their shadows envelope her. The image changes, and suddenly you see a tall Elf. Strong and fair, he walks through the forest, searching for someone. He is all alone, and the stars shine brightly in the sky above. In the distance he hears the nightingale sing, and he comes to a halt, enchanted, immobile, and longing. Then you hear the soft song, the clear voice coming through the trees. His enchantment, longing, wonder are clear for everyone to see. He is lost, he forgets all about his people, his thoughts, and his friends. Following the song into the shadows cast by the trees he travels on. As he arrives in a clearing, open to the skies and lit by the light of the stars, he sees her. Melian, standing in the light, the beauty of Aman shining in her eyes. Their eyes lock, but nothing is said. Elwë slowly walks forward and takes her hand. Both trapped by the enchantment, immobile for several years they stand, hand in hand. Their eyes locked, their thoughts travelling together, as the trees grow high around them, and the stars roll by in the sky. The vision fades, and you find that you are looking at the cool stars twinkling in the silver basin.
